This number is already linked to another account
When you add a number, Takkn sends a verification code to it and you enter that code. If the code is correct, you have proven that you control the number. If the number is already active on another Takkn account, it still cannot be added to a second account — a phone number can only be active on one account at a time.
To use the number on the account you want:
- Sign in to the account that currently uses the number.
- Add and verify a different number on that account.
- Make the new number that account’s primary number.
- Remove the number you want to free up.
- Sign back in to the account you intend to keep it on and add it there.
Takkn will not tell you who owns the other account, and will never move a number between accounts automatically.
Recover the account that already uses the number
You can regain access to an existing account using the flows Takkn supports:
- Sign in with the number. Every verified number (your primary and any verified secondary numbers) can be used to sign in — a code is sent to the number and you enter it.
- Forgot your PIN. Your account PIN can be reset from the sign-in screen by verifying a fresh code sent to a number on the account.
- New device. Signing in on a new device signs you out of the previous one; your relationship, chats, memories and premium access stay with the account.
Move a number between accounts
Moving a number is a manual, self-service process:
- Sign in to the account that currently uses the number.
- Add and verify another number on that account.
- Make the replacement number the primary number.
- Remove the number you want to move.
- Sign in to the account you want to use it on and add the now-free number.
A few rules apply along the way:
- You must be connected with an active partner to add, move, or remove numbers.
- Changing your primary number requires you to confirm your account PIN.
- After you change your primary number, there is a short cooldown (about an hour) before you can change it again.
- Each account can keep a small number of verified and pending numbers at once.
Remove a number from an old account
- The primary number cannot be removed. Add and verify another number first, make it primary, then remove the old one.
- Removing a number requires you to confirm.
- Managing numbers requires a connected active partner.
- Once a number is removed it stops working as a sign-in method for that account immediately, and becomes available to add elsewhere.
Delete an unused account (last resort)
Deleting an account is the last resort, not the first step — try recovering the account and moving the number first. If you do delete an account:
- Deletion is scheduled with a 30-day grace period, not immediate. During that window you can sign back in to cancel it.
- The relationship connection to your partner ends.
- Your chats, memories, streaks and planner data are removed after the grace period.
- Premium access is tied to the account; a store subscription must be cancelled separately in the App Store or Google Play — deleting the account does not cancel billing.
- The phone number becomes reusable only after the account is permanently removed.
- Deletion cannot be used to bypass an ownership dispute on a number.
Why an active partner is required
Adding, moving, and removing numbers is available only when you are connected with an active partner. Takkn is built for two connected people, and tying number changes to an active connection is part of how the app protects your account identity from being taken over. If you are not connected yet, connect with your partner and the options will appear.
Verification code problems
- Code didn’t arrive. Wait a moment, check the number and country code, then request a new code. Delivery can be delayed by your carrier.
- Code expired. Request a new code and enter it promptly.
- Wrong code. Re-enter carefully; you can request a fresh one.
- Too many tries. After several incorrect attempts the code is disabled — request a new one and try again.
- Make sure the number is entered in full international format with the correct country code.
Too many attempts
To protect your account, Takkn limits how many codes can be requested and how many times a code can be tried. If you hit a limit, wait a little while and try again. Requesting codes repeatedly in quick succession will not speed things up.
Number limit reached
Each account can have a small number of phone numbers at once. Active numbers and numbers you are in the middle of verifying both count toward the limit. Numbers you have removed do not count. If you reach the limit, remove a number you no longer need before adding another.
Primary-number change cooldown
After you change your primary number, there is a short cooldown (about an hour) before you can change it again. Retrying the exact same change you just made is fine; switching to a different number is what the cooldown limits.
Your primary number
- Every account has exactly one primary number.
- The primary number cannot be removed — make another verified number primary first.
- Any verified secondary number can be promoted to primary.
- Changing your primary number requires confirming your account PIN.
- Changing your primary number does not change your account. Your relationship, chats, memories, and premium access stay with the same account.
A number with an ownership issue
Occasionally a number is flagged for an ownership review — for example after a recycled SIM. While a review is open:
- The number cannot be added to another account.
- Repeatedly trying to add it will not resolve the review.
- You cannot bypass the review by deleting an account or submitting another request.
- Contact support if you believe the number is yours.
Contact support
For recycled numbers, a number still attached to an account you can no longer access, a suspected account takeover, an unresolved dispute, a verified number that will not release, or any recovery failure, email support@takkn.com or visit our Support page. Please include the affected number in international format and a short description of the problem.
